A healthy India can be built when healthcare services are easily accessible to urban as well as rural people. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Health and Wellness Centres have been established across India under the Ayushman Bharat scheme to ensure that every citizen gets quality primary health care services. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel Gujarat is one of the leading states in India with 9610 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres.
Ayushman Bharat provides accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services for all. The Health and Wellness Centres under this scheme provide comprehensive primary healthcare to the citizens at their doorsteps, thus reducing morbidity, mortality, and expenditure on healthcare.
9610 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centers operational in the state
As of August 2023, 9610 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres are operational in Gujarat. This includes 7419 sub- centres – Health and Wellness Centres (SC – HWC), 1469 Primary Health Centres – Health and Wellness Centres (PHC – HWC), 374 Urban Primary Health Centres – Health and Wellness Centres (UPHC – HWC), 101 Urban Health and Wellness Centres (UHWC) and 247 Ayush Health and Wellness Centres (AYUSH HWC).
Health care services provided under Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC)
Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres provide the following basic healthcare services:
- Health care during pregnancy and childbirth
- Neonatal and Infant Health Care Services
- Health care services during childhood and adolescence
- Family planning, contraceptive services, and other reproductive health care services
- Managing Infectious Diseases: National Health Programs
- General out-patient care for serious but basic illnesses (acute simple illness) and minor illnesses
- Screening, prevention, control, and management of non-communicable diseases and chronic infectious diseases such as Tuberculosis and Anemia
Additional health care services
- Basic oral health care services
- Health care for common Ophthalmic and ENT problems
- Palliative health care services for the elderly and Palliative health care
- Emergency medical services including burns and trauma
- Screening and basic management of mental illnesses
Yoga has also been covered as a part of the wellness activity for a healthy life.
All Health and Wellness Centres provide all 7 health care services to the people with a committed plan to provide a package of all 12 services by March 2024.
India’s first NQAS Certified sub-center in Mahisagar District
India’s first National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) certified sub- center- Health and Wellness Centre is operational at Dokelav in Mahisagar district. Currently, the state has a total of 297 NQAS-certified Health and Wellness Centres. Of them, 38 are sub-centers – Health and Wellness Centres, the highest at the national level.
Development of Model HWCs at tourist destinations in Gujarat
Model Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) are being developed at tourist places across Gujarat. Ramrechi Health and Wellness Centre is currently operational in the Gir-Somnath district. The process of developing Model HWCs at tourist spots in other districts is also underway, such as the Narmada, Mahisagar, and Navsari districts.
More than 12.21 crore people visit Health and Wellness Centres
More than 12.21 crore people have visited the 9610 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres in the state. An average of 36 people visit the Primary Health Centre-Health and Wellness Centre per day. An average of 66 people visit the Urban Primary Health Centre-Health and Wellness Centre each day and an average of 11 people visit the Sub-Centre-Health and Wellness Centre every day.
A total of 7506 Community Health Officers have been appointed as Mid-level health providers at the sub-center level. More than 15 lakh Wellness Sessions have been conducted so far with more than 1.20 crore people as participants.
More than 54 lakh teleconsultations through e-Sanjeevani OPD
Now, with the help of e-Sanjeevani OPD, patients can avail online health consultations thus saving time and expenditure. People have been availing health consultations from the comfort of their homes since 2020. More than 54,19,027 people in Gujarat have availed teleconsultations by Community Health Officers (CHO)/ doctors through the e-Sanjeevani portal.
